A kitchen that runs on its own software.
Ember Kitchen is a fictional Lahore meal-prep brand. The system behind it is not: it is based on a set of connected apps running a real food business today, rebuilt here with sample data so you can see how it works.
Before
Orders came in on WhatsApp and were copied into a sheet by hand. The cooking plan lived in one person’s head. Delivery routes were worked out every morning. Nobody knew the real cost of a meal after a supplier changed a price. A missed message meant a missed order.
After
One system, eight connected parts, all reading from the same records. An order entered once flows to the cooking plan, the delivery route, the invoice and the follow-up. The owner opens one screen in the morning and sees what needs a decision.
Inside the system
Concept screens. All names and numbers are sample data.
| Meal | Cost | Change |
|---|---|---|
| High protein bowl | Rs 412 | +6% chicken |
| Daal & rice box | Rs 188 | — |
| Grilled fish plate | Rs 536 | −3% fish |
| Kids lunch box | Rs 221 | — |

- B-217 · Grilled fish12 portions
- Chicken stock low for B-215Order 6 kg
Supplier raised chicken price 6%. Approve the new cost, or query it?
Eight parts, one record
Every WhatsApp, website and phone order lands on one board, with status from new to delivered.
Tomorrow’s orders become a cooking plan: batch sizes, ingredients to pull, labels to print.
Stops grouped into rider routes, with delivery windows and cash to collect.
Cost per meal recalculated whenever a supplier bill changes a price.
Supplier invoices read, matched to what was ordered, and reminded before they are due.
Trial customers get a timed follow-up sequence; regulars get reorder nudges.
One screen each morning: orders, batches, routes, cash and anything that needs a decision.
Nightly backups and alerts, so nothing fails silently.
What we learned building it
- One owner for every number. When two sheets hold the same price, one is always wrong. Every fact lives in one place and everything else reads from it.
- Build for the phone first. The people using it are in the kitchen and on bikes, not at desks.
- Nothing fails silently. Every automation reports when it breaks, and backups run every night.
- Keep the sheet. The team already trusts the spreadsheet. The apps sit on top of it instead of replacing it.
